AMD Radeon R9 295X2 8GB - Overclocking

Using the Catalyst Control Centre to first increase the card's power threshold to 150 percent, we managed a core overclock of 9 percent, which gave us a maximum core speed of 1,109MHz. This is just short of the 1,120MHz we achieved with a single R9 290X, which is a decent result given that there are now two of them.

Our experience with memory overclocking was simply phenomenal, as the card was stable with the chips running at 1.65GHz (6.6GHz effective), which is a 32 percent increase over stock speeds – we only managed 5.6GHz on the stock R9 290X. Whether this is due to better memory chips, improved cooling or simply luck (or a combination) we cannot say, but it's an excellent result either way.

To test the impact, we used our 4K tests, as only these would have a chance of showing anything meaningful. We also ran the Unigine Valley 1.0 benchmark at 2,560 x 1,440, the higher 16:9 resolution available.
